I am going to sell 60% of my action in WCOOP #57, No Limit Omaha H/L with 10-minute levels, $215 buy-in, on 25 September 2011.

The price for 60% will be 1.1 X (0.6)($215.00) = $141.90

10% for $23.65
20% for $47.30

I will accept cash or player transfer on PokerStars.

gumasta on PokerStars

In the next week I will open a forum thread to sell pieces. If I can't sell 60% then I will not play and I will refund any funds sent to me if I do not play.

If you have already played poker on the Internet and you can show me that you are a winning player even at micro stakes, I can put you in touch with a backer who will help you move up stakes with 50/50 profit sharing and coaching assistance.

Send me a message if you are interested. You must be willing to play 20,000 hands in a month, which could take 25-100 hours depending on your multi-tabling ability. Must have some experience already.

If you're not interested but you know people who qualify, please refer them to me.

This month has been a struggle because of disruptive events in the poker world. I am withholding any judgment or predictions until things settle down for a few months at least; until then I can hope at least my way of life will not suffer too much.

For the sake of amateurs and professionals in all countries that are affected one way or another by recent events, may there be a timely and appropriate resolution or new opportunities following the Black Friday blackout, April 15, 2011.

I am compiling a list of notable Magic: the Gathering players who are professional poker players or doing work that involves poker. I will add updates and links to this list when I find more.

First, a quick list of names in no special order:

Sigurd Eskeland
Eric Froehlich
Alexander Borteh
Andre Coimbra

Web links:

Sigurd Eskeland has a World Series of Poker bracelet and a Pro Tour victory.

Gabriel Nassif (Wiki) joined the Magic Pro Tour Hall of Fame and has several appearance at the WSOP including final tables and a deep finish in the Main Event (Hendonmob).

Julien Nuijten won Worlds as a teenager and played poker outside the USA when he was under 21, winning on the LAPT.

David Williams (Wiki) is famous as runner-up to Greg Raymer's WSOP victory that was broadcast on ESPN and is also seen here; his marked cards, Accumulated Knowledge, caused his disqualification at MTG Worlds before he became a poker pro. The WPT World Championship victory added to his lifetime total of $7.9 million dollars in gross earnings in tournaments, buy-ins not deducted.

Gary Wise writes about poker in a column for ESPN.com.

Team PokerStars has signed several MTG players:

The Starkington Post had some coverage of the 2010 WSOP.

I quit my last job at the end of October 2009. Since then I've made a living using my computer and the Internet. Six months ago I bought this laptop I'm using now and I earned enough to cover its cost within the same month.

My monthly income fluctuates, but on average it has exceeded my highest pay level at my last job. But I won't be too comfortable until I'm sure I can earn enough to buy a house andor support a family, whether or not I will do either of those things.

When another year has passed, then I can be a lot more confident with my financial situation and then I can determine the course of my life for the next several years, barring unforeseen complications.

The last film I went to see at the cinema was Oliver Stone's Wall Street sequel. I'm happy to have some degree of financial security now, even though my chances of making millions are not yet near.

Endgame in turbo PLO8 is just silly sometimes. That four-handed bubble can take a long time to crack when a lot of pots get split and it's rare to be better than 60-40 AIPF. ROI is 37% in 37 games with 18/37 ITM. Major major luck obv obv.

I could play today (tomorrow morning) but it's time for a break and a couple of days off.

SCOOP is an online series of tournaments on PokerStars with low-, medium- and high-stakes tournaments running at the same time.

Earlier this year I won a prize in a freeroll that gave me entry into a $215 event of my choice. PokerStars sent me another ticket worth $22 for completing another promotion.

I will sell a percentage of my action in the $215 event that I will enter.

Selling shares: 10% of action for 20 USD.
Send me a PM or an e-mail before May 13 to qualify. Maximum of 50% to be sold.

Only one of the following tournaments will be covered:

Event 33-M: $215 NL Omaha Hi/Lo (turbo), $100K guaranteed

I have lots of experience with this game, but the structure limits my edge against players of medium skill.

Event 36-M: $215 HORSE, $100K guaranteed

This is one of my favorite tournament formats, but I need more practice.

Event 37-M: $215 NL Hold'em, $750K guaranteed

Big guarantee, Sunday event. Expected ROI is very high, but the size of the field increases the luck factor.

***

I will also accept a complete, competitive Magic: the Gathering deck instead of cash. Maybe even a partial deck if it has enough value.

Everyone who watches poker on TV is familiar with the quick and easy two-card Texas Hold'em game. A lot of new players are introduced to this simple variation on the Internet through Facebook or with play money on various poker sites. Like the majority of Internet players, I also started my career with this game and learned it very quickly. But there are more interesting forms of poker for those looking for something a little different and maybe to find new challenges or to get a bigger advantage against weaker players.

Big online tournaments with the other games often have many weak players that are just trying their hand at something different, attracted by guaranteed prize pools and perhaps the idea that nobody else knows the game anyway. If you have good card skills and basic knowledge of the game, it can be a lucrative opportunity at a fairly low price.

PokerStars has some videos introducing some of these games, like the old classic STUD, and the new 'stud' in town, POT LIMIT OMAHA. Check these out:

How to Play Pot Limit Omaha with Daniel Negreanu

My tip: You need three suits on the board and two in your hand for a flush! Don't make a newbie mistake in this game.

How to Play 7 Card Stud with Greg Raymer and Joe Hachem

Write down the up cards in other people's hands before they fold them. Use paper, the chat box, notepad, whatever.

Years ago, I played in my first tournament: a live single-table satellite to a $400 tournament with a $20,000 guaranteed prize pool. I won. ♣

I could have sold the seat to the big tournament at close to its face value, but instead I played it (probably 15% of my net worth at the time) and played conservatively but took a bad beat to go out. Since then, I've decided to avoid taking risks for that much money in one tournament.

Now I'm a much better player and I can take reasonable risks with positive expectation. Is it time to try another High Stakes Poker Tournament?

In May on PokerStars I will join at least one tournament for $215 with a ticket I won for $0. I could join another one with the money I have left in my account, but then I'd no longer be able to chat on the rail at high stakes unless I won. There is the option of transferring more money to Stars, but then that has to come from somewhere.

So my plan is to buy a new notebook computer by May and have the ability to go to backup in case of power failure, network failure, or something like that. When I have that, then I can decide how much I can invest in tournaments while I maintain my action at my regular games.

I'm not doing anything different, but that is an interesting pattern. If it has to bounce up and down like this, I hope it bounces higher. A smooth climb uphill would be better.

Metro 3M guarantee, 5k buy-in.

After ~90 hands my VPIP/PFR: 10/4. I wanted to be much looser, but there were not many opportunities to make moves. In the first few levels I gave up a quarter of my 10,000 chips when I made some aggressive moves with reasonable hands but couldn't take heat on later streets.

I doubled up to 15k when I raised JJ under the gun, got called by a very loose player to my immediate left and the big blind, flop was Axx two low hearts, made a c-bet and loose guy called, turn A, check-check, river blank, I bet 2500 into 4k with 3k behind, guy said 'all-in'...I reviewed the hand and made the call and won against a busted flush draw.

That's the only time I went to showdown. I open my button once and c-bet half pot to win another hand, then my BB gets walked to me, then I open fold my button with the same guy in BB who called my last 'steal' attempt.

Last hand, ten-handed, blinds 200/400 ante 25, I have 14.2k, table has one huge stack, two big stacks, a group of guys with 12k-15k, a small stack, and a guy with less than 8 bb who has the button in this hand. There's just a few minutes left before blinds go to 300/600 ante 50.

I'm UTG+1, peek at K-J of clubs and announce raise to 1000 with one blue chip. I'm estimating stack sizes but they're probably not very accurate except mine. Loose mohawk guy (20k) to my immediate left calls quickly, Richard Sharpe (14k) in MP2 calls, tight middle-aged guy (20k) in CO calls, button and SB fold, young Internet amateur with Full Tilt hat (15k) thinks about squeezing for several seconds and then calls from the BB.

Flop: J♥T♦9♥

BB checks, I bet 3k, mohawk guy calls without hesitation, everyone else folds while I count my chips.

Turn: J♥T♦9♥9♦

Shove my remaining 10,200 into a pot of 11,450. Guy calls with A-10 of hearts. It's very close, but he doesn't have correct pot odds:

board: JhTd9h9d
HandPot equityWinsTies
KcJc68.18%300
AhTh31.82%140

Ace on the river!

On top of that, I am $200 below EV for the month of March. I'm still winning anyway.
